Darby Holm came to glass the way most great artists find their calling — through obsession. Growing up immersed in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, Darby developed a reverence for organic form, the play of light through leaves, the iridescence of morning dew on spider webs. Glass became the only medium capable of capturing that living, shifting quality of light.

At the heart of Darby’s technique is fuming — the ancient practice of vaporizing precious metals directly onto molten glass. Silver produces a golden warmth; gold fumes to a rich peachy blush.
